About Strum Consulting

Lonny Strum created the Strum Consulting Group in 1999 following a 25-year career in communications agency management. The Strum Consulting Group mission is to provide strategic business and marketing consulting to companies and professional service firms.

Prior to forming the Strum Consulting Group, Lonny was the CEO of the Star Group, and was the former President of Earle Palmer Brown/Philadelphia. During his tenure as President of Earle Palmer Brown in the early 90s, the agency grew to become the largest agency in the national Earle Palmer Brown network as well as the largest agency in the Philadelphia region at that time. Lonny worked with many blue chip national and regional clients, including Comcast, Dollar Rent-a-Car, Wawa, Independence Blue Cross, and many others.

Earlier in his career, Lonny spent 12 years at BBDO/New York, one of the world’s largest communications agencies, where he was a Senior Vice President/Management Representative on many of their largest accounts, including GE, DuPont, Polaroid, Pine-Sol, Armstrong, Pillsbury, and Campbell Soup.

Lonny has served on several Philadelphia area non-profit boards including the United Way of  Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey where he chaired their Communication/Marketing Committee and served on the Executive Committee. He is currently a Distinguished Director. Lonny was a long-time member of Young President’s Organization, and has also served on the Boards of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Arts & Business Council, Leadership Philadelphia, and the New Jersey State Aquarium.

Lonny was named one of the “40 under 40″ by the Philadelphia Business Journal in 1992 and was awarded the first ever “Most Valuable Professional” of the entire communications industry by the Philadelphia Ad Club in 1994. He also received the Committed Community Volunteer Award for the United Way in 2003 & 2011. Under his leadership he has earned Gold Effies for marketing effectiveness for Polaroid (at BBDO in 1987) and for the Partnership for Drug-Free America (at Earle Palmer Brown in 1993). Lastly, he was a 5-year Chairman of the Philadelphia area Council of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4As), the industry’s most prestigious association.

Lonny is a frequent speaker on branding, marketing, and many business topics, and has authored dozens of articles in marketing journals. He was a weekend disc jockey in the 1980s at a Northern New Jersey album rock radio station, WDHA. And he is, and forever will be, a passionate fan of the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees.

Lonny has an MBA from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers College. He lives in New Jersey.
