Strumings “Fare Thee Well” set list

face“Fare Thee Well” is over. I did not go to any of the shows, though I spent more money viewing the pay per views than I did seeing them live for any of their concerts I saw in the 70s.

I have attended 50+ shows of the band and the spin offs, and I have never seen a “bad” one (no such thing as a bad show, you say). On the other hand, I’ve never seen a Dead concert when I was totally satisfied. There always a gnawing feeling that I did not get to hear (insert name of unplayed Dead song). Realistically after 50 years there is too much material to play to satisfy all Deadheads in any individual show.

To their credit, the Dead never evolved into merely playing medleys of their “hits”. In fact they don’t have “hits”—they jam, play songs, drift, come back, go forward all while giving their loving followers fuel for their musical souls. I am among the many who love the Dead, who will miss them and will still try to see whatever incarnations are left among the members. It’ll be interesting to see if the individual members play any longer, and in what configuration. Personally, I hope Furthur re-forms with Weir & Lesh.

I loved the final shows but I was left wanting more. I was a bit crestfallen, feeling as if many of “my favorite Dead songs” weren’t played. But since Strumings is my blog, here’s a crack at the Strumings “Fare Thee Well” set list. Enjoy.

Set One
China Cat>Rider
Friend of the Devil
Eyes of the World
Casey Jones

Set Two
Bird Song
Not Fade Away>Going Down
Uncle Johns Band
The Other One>Saint Stephen>The Eleven
Box of Rain
Sugar Magnolia>Scarlet Begonias>Sugar Magnolia

Brokedown Palace

It’s a fine set list heavy with songs from the late 60s/early 70s. No doubt I missed songs you’d want to hear, and I appreciate any suggestions, but you need to take some away (over my “Dead body”) to add others.

Jerry’s been gone for 20 years next month and now the Grateful Dead are no longer. Thanks for great music and a great time.
